As a follow-up to the Girls Play Sports Festival and GPS After School Clinics, Team GPS offers a comprehensive year round opportunity that deepens the exposure and instruction for middle school girls to two new sports each month.
Additionally, Team GPS engages these future leaders in discussion topics about critical topics that face young women today. The goal is to open up their mind to the possibilities that exist in sport while giving them the critical thinking skills to better navigate their future as strong, confident women.
At the Team GPS monthly sessions, high school student-athletes teach the skills and drills while the GPS Director coordinates the discussion topics. A low athlete to instructor ratio will always stay below 6:1.
Each Team GPS session also has a social discussion component with topics such as health and nutrition, friendships and relationships, social media, bullying, drugs and alcohol, body image, career exploration and the psychology of sport.
The program offers monthly multi-sport units spread across Sunday training nights. These take place at the local high school. Last year, over 100 girls participated in the Team GPS program. Girls can sign up for one, some or all of the programs.
Below is the calendar for the Evanston 2018-2019 Team GPS season. The sessions are on Sundays from 4pm-6pm.
